Why Rules?

Every institution has its own rules and regulations. From my experience, I have seen the cases in educational institutions as a teacher and as a student. The purpose of setting rules is to appeal to be lawful so that anyone can be challenged by them. But when it comes to the application, it seems to me that priority is given to the individuals’ or the institutions unreasonable benefit. Therefore, if being lawful breaks the profit policy, it is preferred to be unlawful.

Once I talked to a coordinator some three days after administering final exam to my students. He urged me to submit students’ grade in two to three days’ time.  I told him that I had already finished marking the papers but was only left with showing them to the students. He said, ‘‘Leave it out; we never do that’’. I was so amazed by his reply. In fact, the practice he revealed was not new, but the fact he confidently made public made my jaw drop. The legislations clearly state that a teacher should make sure all the papers of the students are marked and recorded correctly before submitting the final grade report.

Greetings dear/sir

I am an ordinary member of this Church, EEC Mekane Yesus. I have been attempting to read the web page of the Church triggered by the multilayered  contemporary problems of Christians. I was confident to find answers to my pressing doubts and questions so that I would be able to cope up with the current spirituality/godliness disasters. Unfortunately, I even could not find the statement of faith that shows the basic doctrines of this Holy Church. My all hope tuned to worsened frustration. 

How can a church claiming to represent the Kingdom of Heaven ignore its very purpose of existence? Who will help each member for the church desperately looking for answers to several questions coming from the world and false teachers? How can one easily know the church's conviction on various social problems such as homosexuality, ዘፈን, drunkenness, abortion,prosperity gospel, divorce, female ministry, etc.? 

Please it is too late for us to sleep. Let's wake up. Mind that the Gospel of the kingdom is unchanged but the way it is defended and proclaimed is almost totally changed because of the overwhelming technological influence.

Should News be Like this?

I wonder when an event becomes a news. I usually watch news on EBC focusing on societal problems here and there in Ethiopia. The opinions of the residents of different areas expressing grievance about lack of clean water, parking areas, recreational environments, problems of good governance, and so forth are asked by the journalists. The people comment that they were suffering for a long time, but now, thanks to the government, they would no longer live as they were before.

It happens to be that only when the government either launches or finds the solution that the lifelong problems of the people become news. When the government officials officially announce a particular project to tackle the problems of people in a particular area, the media give coverage to the previous tough situations the people were going through.

But is that what the media have to do? Which one should come first? There is no doubt that what the government does in response to questions of the people is worth news. But it could have been after a number of other episodes of programs that have been hosted to show how the people were feeling when they didn’t get any attention. The news could have triggered the actions of the government and I think not the vice versa.

I am so impressed by the things you are doing these days. I have only recently known you when I was desperately thinking about what to do to defend God's church from men's evil thought particularly about 'zefen'. You are among the few people reacted to it cautiously and with godly concern. I also have come to know that you are doing many more similar jobs to maintain and protect the healthy and fundamental doctrines of the orthodox Christianity. I am so happy to have you today among this outrageous and evil generation who started to run more earnestly after what satisfies their lust than what God requires them to do. I also visited your website and read your statement of faith and found it biblical "And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone"Ef 2:20. God bless you. I appreciate your great work, and you will be rewarded very soon when Jesus comes back with His glory. Please increase your efforts to speak against the evil thoughts of men as the scripture says, "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalted itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;" 2Cor 10:5. Then, you are the true fighter of Christ.

Resisting Injustice 29 July 2015

Why do we feel frightened when we want to battle injustice? My confidence comes and goes while I am waiting for the key person to arrive. I rehearse what to say time and again and each time with some different arguments. It is really tough to stand against authorities known by abusing their power. Imagine when he/she is your immediate boss, and you are a student. I believe the result which I would reap later on is likely to be desirable, but at the time being it is so bitter. So, I have come to know that fear is unavoidable and therefore I should let it be.

Talking about human dignity is wonderful when Mr. Obama speaks eloquently on the platform of African Union head office, but it becomes nonsense in the context of Ethiopian public offices.
