Every institution has its
own rules and regulations. From my experience, I have seen the cases in
educational institutions as a teacher and as a student. The purpose of setting
rules is to appeal to be lawful so that anyone can be challenged by them. But when
it comes to the application, it seems to me that priority is given to the
individuals’ or the institutions unreasonable benefit. Therefore, if being
lawful breaks the profit policy, it is preferred to be unlawful.
Once I talked to a
coordinator some three days after administering final exam to my students. He
urged me to submit students’ grade in two to three days’ time. I told him that I had already finished
marking the papers but was only left with showing them to the students. He
said, ‘‘Leave it out; we never do that’’. I was so amazed by his reply. In
fact, the practice he revealed was not new, but the fact he confidently made public
made my jaw drop. The legislations clearly state that a teacher should make
sure all the papers of the students are marked and recorded correctly before
submitting the final grade report.
